Diary of an Accidental Wallflower (Seduction Diaries # 1)
Author: Jennifer McQuiston
Release Date: February 24th, 2015
Publisher: Avon

Pretty and popular, Miss Clare Westmore knows exactly what (or rather, who) she wants: the next Duke of Harrington. But when she twists her ankle on the eve of the Season’s most touted event, Clare is left standing in the wallflower line watching her best friend dance away with her duke.

Dr. Daniel Merial is tempted to deliver more than a diagnosis to London’s most unlikely wallflower, but he doesn’t have time for distractions, even one so delectable. Besides, she’s clearly got her sights on more promising prey. So why can’t he stop thinking about her?

All Clare wants to do is return to the dance floor. But as her former friends try to knock her permanently out of place, she realizes with horror she is falling for her doctor instead her duke. When her ankle finally heals and she faces her old life again, will she throw herself back into the game?

Or will her time in the wallflower line have given her a glimpse of who she was really meant to be?

This is a really lovely read with a slow build romance that tests both main characters and makes them question what they want in life.

Daniel is a dedicated doctor working to build a client base amongst the ton, but his true passion is in research to save more lives, particularly during potentially fatal surgeries. Daniel is kind of perfect in a lot of ways. He's sensitive and good-humoured, with a selfless dedication to bettering other people's lives. I loved hearing about his research and his efforts to have his findings published in the medical journal, The Lancet. As a biology student, it was wonderfully odd to find such familiar ground in a historical romance!

I was fairly unsure about how to take Clare to begin with, but I've enjoyed all of Jennifer McQuiston's heroines to date, so I tried to remain objective. I was happily rewarded and Clare turned out to be a wonderful heroine who was trying so hard to be someone she truly wasn't. She seems at first to be a slightly snobbish and superior debutante with nothing on her mind but marriage. But Clare has become rather adept at hiding her true personality and playing a role in the ton. She wants to make a good marriage and she is very determined in her goals. Clare becomes a pretty awesome heroine towards the end and I was rooting for her every step of the way!

The relationship between Clare and Daniel is a slow burner, with the first part of the story focusing on building a friendship between the pair. Once they recognise their attraction to each other it's an entirely different matter. Both have very different goals and lives, but I loved seeing them compromise and realise that being with each other is what would make them truly happy.

This is a charming story that takes two people who on the surface seem incompatible, and weaves a sweet romance around them based on friendship and a deeper understanding of each other. I'd definitely recommend it if you're looking for a hero who's a bit different and not your usual Duke!

*I received a review copy for my honest opinion. Thank you!
