When Sir Lucien Blakemore arrives at his cousin’s estate for a week long Christmas party, he’s shocked to see Miss Winifred Nightingale among the other guests. Employed by his neighbor back in Yorkshire, the governess with the lovely eyes has always seemed off limits, but she’s visiting here as a guest—and there’s nothing like a little mistletoe to make the spirits bright…

Miss Winifred Nightingale never dreamed a holiday visit with her sister would lead to both ladies spending Christmas as the local lord’s guests. But the big surprise is when she finds the handsome Sir Lucien Blakemore staying there too. Their attraction between is undeniable, but will an old nemesis and a party guest bent on mischief make their first kiss under the mistletoe their last?

When Sir Lucien Blakemore finally decides to accept his cousin's Christmas invitation, the last person he expected to meet at the house party was Winifred Nightingale. He has befriended the governess, who works for his friend and neighbor, and has also been harbouring romantic thoughts about her. When mysterious threats are made against Winifred, Lucien steps in to help uncover the culprit, and perhaps to inspire a Christmas romance.

Lucien was a lovely hero, he's kind, handsome and honourable. He's the kind of guy who isn't afraid to defend your honour and always makes sure he is most charming to the more unjustly maligned young ladies.
Winifred as a governess has learned how to suppress her own emotions and desires. After her parent's unhappy marriage, she also has no wish to become entrapped in a similar situation, so she's determined to keep Lucien at a platonic distance. Winifred is independent, and kind hearted, even to those who don't initially deserve it.

Winifred and Lucien don't have the clearest path to romance, because of Winifred's reservations. They were very sweet together though, and it was nice to see the intimacy develop between them.

This is a nice, quick read, although nothing particularly stood out for me. There's some added suspense of finding out who is attempting to intimidate Winifred and overall this is a sweet little Christmas novella.

*I received a review copy from the publisher, for my honest opinion. Thank you!
