The Nine Lives of Christmas
Author: Sheila Roberts
Publisher: Piatkus
Release Date: 2 December 2014

When a guy is in trouble, he starts making deals with his Creator . . . and Ambrose the cat is no exception. In danger of losing his ninth and final life, Ambrose makes a desperate plea to the universe. He'll do anything if he can just survive and enjoy a nice long, final life. His prayer is answered when a stranger comes along and saves him-and now it looks like he has to hold up his end of the bargain.

The stranger turns out to be a firefighter named Zach, who's in need of some serious romantic help. If Ambrose can just bring Zach together with Merilee, the nice lady who works at Pet Palace, it's bound to earn him a healthy ninth life. Unfortunately for Ambrose, his mission is a lot harder than he ever thought. Merriliee is way too shy to make the first move on a ladies man like Zach, and Zach thinks he's all wrong for a nice girl like Merrilee. Now it's going to take all of Ambrose's feline wiles-and maybe even a good old fashioned Christmas miracle-to make them both realize that what they're looking for is right in front of their eyes.

Well, this was just adorable. It's the perfect cozy Christmas book to read when it's snowing outside, in front of a roaring fire.

Ambrose is on his ninth life and it looks like his luck might have run out when he's chased up a tree by a large dog. He pleads for his life and his prayers are answered in the guise of fireman, Zach, who saves him from the dog.
Zach reluctantly takes in Ambrose, not that Ambrose gives him much of a choice. Zach just wants a quiet life; work, his friends and his undemanding girlfriend are all that he needs. Well, girlfriend is probably a stretch, since Zach is adamant about not getting serious with anyone since he was burned in the past. Zach may act a bit gruff but he's a total sweetheart.
Merilee is a kind and gentle person, unfortunately with low self-esteem after being in the shadow of her gorgeous sisters for so long. She's an animal lover, working at Pet Palace and the animal shelter, whilst hoping to finish vet school one day. Making the perfect meet cute for Merilee and Zach, through Ambrose. Merilee may be a bit of a wallflower but she has a heart of gold, and her confidence grows through the story.

Merilee and Zach are very sweet together. Zach tries not to be drawn to Merilee since she's the kind of girl you marry and he's not the marrying type- I know, a bit cliche but it's still cute.
Ambrose tries his very hardest to bring these two hapless humans together, and he rather steals the show. I loved that the book wasn't just from Zach and Merilee's POVs, but from Ambrose's as well.

Overall, this is a very sweet story. It's more than just a romance, as we see Zach struggle to open his heart to his family as well. And of course, it's Ambrose's story as well! If you're looking for a quick, light read that gives you the warm fuzzies at Christmas then this is the book for you.

*I received a review copy from the publisher for my honest opinion. Thank you!
