Blog Tour: Fixed on You by Laurelin Paige; Excerpt + Review

Fixed on You (Fixed #1)
Author: Laurelin Paige
Release Date: 22 June 2013

Stalking and restraining orders are a thing of Alayna Wither’s past. With her MBA newly in hand, she has her future figured out—move up at the nightclub she works at and stay away from any guy who might trigger her obsessive love disorder. A perfect plan.

But what Alayna didn’t figure on is Hudson Pierce, the new owner of the nightclub. He’s smart, rich, and gorgeous—the kind of guy Alayna knows to stay away from if she wants to keep her past tendencies in check. Except, Hudson’s fixed his sights on her. He wants her in his bed and makes no secret of it. Avoiding him isn’t an option after he offers a business proposition she can’t turn down and she’s drawn further into his universe, unable to resist his gravitational pull.

When she learns Hudson has a dark history of his own, she realizes too late that she’s fallen for the worst man she could possibly get involved with. Or maybe their less than ideal pasts give them an opportunity to heal each other and finally find the love their lives have been missing.

I moved to the door and placed my hand on the knob. But Hudson’s palm pressed on the top of the door, holding it closed and trapping me between him and the wall.
He lowered his head to my ear. “Wait, Alayna.” His breath tickled and burned simultaneously. I closed my eyes, taking it in, bearing it. “I apologize for overwhelming you. That wasn’t my intent. But I want you to know that whether or not you decide to help with my situation, I will continue to seduce you. I’m a man who gets what he wants. And I want you.”
Um, holy wow.
Turned on did not begin to describe how his statement made me feel.
Then his mouth was on me, nibbling at my earlobe. I drew in a sharp breath. Involuntarily, I let my head roll to the side, granting him better access.
And, man, did he take what I gave, nipping a trail down my neck, sending ripples of desire through my belly. I moved my hand off the doorknob and grabbed his arm to steady myself. He curled his other arm around me, his hand settling on my breast. I gasped at the contact, leaning in to his touch.
He kneaded my breast as he nuzzled his face in my hair. “I should have told you earlier,” he said softly. “You look absolutely beautiful tonight. I can’t keep my eyes off you. Serious and sexy wrapped into one package.” He pressed against me and I could feel his erection at my lower back. “Kiss me, Alayna.”
It was so hot how he used my name freely. As if it was his to use. And in many ways it was. Almost no one called me anything but Laynie. He’d claimed my name when he claimed me.
All that was left was for me to accept it.

Review

I have heard so much about this book, that it's definitely time I read it! And I am very glad I did.

I really liked Alayna. She has had issues in the past, with the stalking and obsessing, but she's worked hard to overcome those issues and keep herself on the straight and narrow. I loved how smart she was as well, she's ambitious and determined but she knows what she wants and doesn't want to do what other people think she should be doing, aka her brother. Sure, she has her 'crazy' moments and she just can't stay away from Hudson, but she realises what she's doing and recognises her behaviour for what it is.
Hudson was just utterly swoon-worthy. He's so intense and demanding, in the best possible way. And damn, can that man dirty talk! He has his own dark past and is very guarded, but at least he is honest about what he wants from Alayna. As we find out more about Hudson's issues, my heart was aching for him. I just wanted to give him a massive hug *cough* naked *cough*

Hudson and Alayna shouldn't work, on paper. He most definitely doesn't want a romantic relationship and Alayna gets too attached. But they do work wonderfully, I can't imagine anyone else who could get through Hudson's barriers, like Alayna can. Their dark, destructive pasts mean that they understand each other, in a way that most people can't. Plus, they have insane sexual chemistry. Like, wow. It's the reason they can't stay away from each other, in the beginning and let's face it- Alayna was never going to be able to resist Hudson's sheer sexual magnetism.

This is also really well-written, the pace is great and I was never bored. I always love the 'fake relationship' thing in a romance, because we all know how that will end up! I loved Alayna and Hudson's relationship as they slowly opened up to each other. I'm so looking forward to the rest of this series. I want more Hudson. Right now.

*I received a review copy, as part of a blog tour, for my honest review. Thank you!

About the Author

USA Today Bestselling Author Laurelin Paige is a sucker for a good romance and gets giddy anytime there’s kissing, much to the embarrassment of her three daughters. Her husband doesn’t seem to complain, however. When she isn’t reading or writing sexy stories, she’s probably singing, watching Mad Men and the Walking Dead, or dreaming of Adam Levine. She is represented by the wonderful Bob Diforio of D4EO Literary Agency.
