Where Their Hearts Collide by Zoe York; Interview + Giveaway

I'm so happy to have Zoe York at Rookie Romance today! Zoe has just released Where Their Hearts Collide, the second book in her Wardham series.

Where Their Hearts Collide
Author: Zoe York
Release Date: 15 November 2013

Karen’s finally decided what she wants to do when she grows up. Too bad it’ll mean leaving behind her new neighbour, who’s stirred up a different kind of grown up feelings. But when he rebuffs her attempt to have a fling before she leaves Wardham, Karen knows it's for the best. A clean break, no messy emotional entanglements.

Intense and private, Paul has recently moved to Wardham for a more family friendly job, leaving behind a career as a homicide detective in the city. He only has his ten year old daughter a few nights a week, and he doesn’t want any distractions or drama while he tries to repair their relationship.

But Karen is right next door, and everywhere he goes. His resolve to keep his distance only lasts until she needs a true friend in her corner, and he realizes he can’t imagine life without her.

Interview

Hi Zoe, welcome to Rookie Romance!
Thanks for having me!

Share 4 fun facts about yourself!
1. I don't love chocolate. (Why is that fun? More for everyone else!) Give me something savoury every time.
2. I'm the oldest of seven kids.
3. I'm a third generation self-publishing author - both my grandfather and my mother were indie authors, long before ereaders!
4. I've been with my husband for more than half my life (and I'm not that old!). We started dating when I was sixteen, and I'm thirty-four now.

Congratulations on the recent release of Where Their Hearts Collide! If it was made into a movie, who would you cast as Karen and Paul?
Christopher Meloni and Famke Janssen. I included pictures of both of them in my Pinterest board for Where Their Hearts Collide. (http://www.pinterest.com/zoeyorkwrites/book-where-their-hearts-collide/) Tim McGraw and Viggo Mortensen would also be strong contenders for the part of Paul.

What Once Was Perfect is a holiday romance and part of a Christmas bundle, but what do you particularly enjoy about holiday romances?
It's no coincidence that the first book I finished was a holiday romance. I love the magic of the season, how it softens hearts and allows for possibilities that we're closed off to the rest of the year.

What gave you the boost to dive into the world of writing and self-publishing?
Other authors get full credit here. I spent a lot of time researching the different options, and talking to people who have had success (and struggles) in both traditional publishing and self-publishing. The authors that are most like me have flourished as self-publishers. While I'll never say never, because trade publishers have certain advantages, I'm really loving that I have total creative control over my product, and can write on my own schedule. As I have a full-time career that my writing needs to flex around, that's a big deal.

Which authors are you most inspired by?
How long do we have to sit here and list names? Bella Andre, Jill Shalvis, Kate Perry, M. Malone, Kate Pearce, Marie Force, Noelle Adams, Ruthie Knox, Elle Casey, Kit Rocha, Vivian Arend, Pamela Clare, Victoria Dahl...that barely scratches the surface.

What’s your favourite way to just relax and unwind, any hobbies?
Reading tops the list, of course. Playing with graphic design stuff, cooking and baking with my kids, photography and hiking round out the top five ways I like to spend my down time.

Can you share a little bit about what you’re working on at the moment?
I'm working on the next Wardham book, When They Weren't Looking. This is the last book in the first set of Wardham novels I'm going to write (there will be more, but I'm going to take a break and work on two other projects before returning to Wardham next year). WTWL is Evie's story. She's woven throughout the first two novels and the novella, and in WTWL, all the pieces come together: the history of her less than satisfying marriage, a little adventure she goes on in Where Their Hearts Collide, and what she wants for her future. And whether she likes it or not, she's now connected in a permanent way to Liam McIntosh, the sexy younger man who wants to be a big part of her life.

Thanks for visiting!
My pleasure!

About the Author

For as long as I can remember, I have been a voracious romance reader. In early 2012, I got an idea for a novel. Then another, and another. My Google Drive account exploded with outlines and chunks of text and character bibles.
Over Christmas, I started a holiday novella. By the end of January, it was clear I was going to wander past novella length, and the story wasn’t limited to the holiday season. And it wasn’t just one book, anymore – it was also an introduction to a small town, Wardham.
Right now I’m hard at work on book no. 2 in the series. The first one, What Once Was Perfect, will be available July 1, 2013. I can’t wait to share Laney and Kyle with you!
When I'm not writing, I’m a busy working mom of two young boys, wife to a very understanding soldier, and a sister/friend/neighbour as well.
