Interview

Hi Nancy and Patti, welcome to The Rookie Romance Blog!
Share 4 fun facts each about yourselves!
Patti -
  1. I should have bought stock in Pepsi many years ago as it is my biggest vice.
  2. I love to knit and crochet in my spare time.
  3. I had the opportunity to travel the world with my great grandparents (who raised me) when my great grandfather worked for General Motors back in their heyday when concept cars first came out.
  4. I can be bribed with a Mr. Goodbar!
Nancy –
  1. I’m a Superman geek! Anything Superman is fine with me! I even have a Superman blanket and pillow.
  2. Now, forty-something years later, I can admit to being part of the group of college kids who painted footprints from the big green Atlas-like statue in front of Detroit’s City Hall to the statue of the naked lady in front of the Michigan Consolidate Gas building across the street.
  3. I once won a woman’s stock car racing title at the tender age of 19.
  4. I can be bribed as well … however my price is a lot higher than Patti’s. I require a Grande White Chocolate Mocha from Starbucks!
What’s different about writing together, rather than on your own?
Patti – you have the opportunity to bounce ideas of one another and have the other person tell you ‘it stinks’ in a kind, polite way. But it opens up a wealth of more ideas (think what if they said this, or what if she then did this, or what if he tells her he hates her) than can take you on a wild ride like you've never imagined (which is what we are currently on with Gambling on Love).
Nancy – you don’t have final say all of the time. It’s bad enough my characters tell me what to do, it’s even worse when a writing partner wants you to change something you've become attached to. Fortunately, we seem to work well together and can usually spot the other’s weakness. Secretly though … every time Patti tries to edit one of my steamy love scenes, I “mentally” duct tape her hands to her chair and don’t release her until the next day!

Is there any music that inspired Gambling on Love?
Patti – not for me. But then I’m not one to link music with any given book. I love to listen to music (no lyrics) when I’m writing though.
Nancy – not as much while I was writing, but afterward. After I’m done writing for the day, I like to relax with a decaf coffee and put my feet up and listen to … heaven help me it’s true … the sound track to Lois and Clark, The New Adventures of Superman. That said, when I decided to try my hand at creating a trailer for Gambling On Love, I chose classical … specifically Blue Danube by Johann Strauss because it was written in the same year the book takes place and I thought that was cool!

If Gambling on Love was made into a movie, who would you choose to cast as Felicity and Jake?
Patti – this is where Nancy and I differ BIG TIME! I would like to see Chris Pine as Jake and Kate Hudson as Felicity.
Nancy – Patti is expecting me to say, a young Dean Cain. However, I’d be just as happy with Stephen Amell (the young star of the t.v. series Arrow – what can I say, I’m a sucker for superheroes). He’s knock-down, dead gorgeous! As for Felicity, she’s only twenty so it’s difficult to picture any known star in the role. Perhaps, Willa Holland (also from the Arrow series). She’s 21 and has the right coloring and fun spirit.

What books have inspired you the most in your lives?
Patti – anything by Jude Deveraux for me. I've read every book she’s ever written. She is the reason why I wanted to write romance and create books with families that are honorable, respectable and can read about for years to come.
Nancy – for romance, I’m a big Elizabeth Lowell fan. I love that not only do you get a lot of romance in her work, but you also learn something worthwhile from her plots. As for non-romance, I get inspired in some way by almost any biography of an historical figure but shy away from books about celebrities.

Can you share a little bit about what you’re working on at the moment?
Patti – I’m presently working on a contemporary paranormal on my own. And also the fourth book in the McCade Legacy series.
Nancy – I’m knee-deep in Book 3 of the McCade Legacy and also doing final round edits on my Vintage Historical, “April Love”, part of my Golden Decade of Rock and Roll series of novellas from The Wild Rose Press.

Thanks for visiting!
