Medusa, A Love Story Birthday Bash tour, Review + Giveaway

Today's my stop on the Medusa Birthday Bash blog tour, hosted by Enchantress of Books Blog Tours!
I've got my review for Medusa, A Love Story and a fab giveaway!
Medusa, A Love Story (Loves of Olympus #1)
Author: Sasha Summers It's said love can change a person. Medusa wasn't always a monster...

Medusa is ruled by duty, to her Titan father and the Goddess Athena. She's no room for the tenderness her warrior guard, Ariston, stirs. When Olympus frees her from service, her heart leads her into the arms of the guard she loves... and curses her as the creature with serpent locks.

Ariston goes to war with a full heart... and dreadful foreboding. He learns too late of the danger Medusa faces, alone, and a Persian blade sends him into the Underworld. But death, curses, nor the wrath of the Gods will keep him from returning to her.

Poseidon will use Greece's war to get what he wants: Medusa. He does not care that she belongs to another. He does not care that she will be damned. He is a God, an Olympian, and she will be his.

My Review:

Firstly, how gorgeous is this cover? It's perfect for the feel of the book.
When I started this book, I had no idea how the author was going to pull it off! I'm pretty familiar with Medusa's story in Greek mythology, so I was looking forward to seeing Medusa portrayed in a different light, and not just as a monster.

Medusa has spent her life happily serving the goddess Athena in her temple; but when the noble warrior, Ariston, is assigned as her guard things start to change. Over time Medusa finds herself falling in love with her handsome and forbidden guard. When she is set free, Ariston and Medusa waste little time in marrying and looking forward to their future together.
Unfortunately Greece is on the brink of war with Persia, so days after their marriage Ariston is called to war. Medusa's happiness unravels quickly as the Gods intervene and the true circumstances of her 'freedom' are revealed.

Poor Medusa, my heart really broke for her. She has been so dutiful to the Gods and never questions her service, until Ariston. She's very innocent and charming, and unfortunately for her, slightly naive. Throughout the book she always puts others before herself, and hates to be the cause of anyone's pain.
I was so angry at Poseidon and Athena! They were so petty and uncaring, with far too much pride.

Ariston was the perfect man! He's so honourable, despite the pull he feels towards Medusa he suppresses it as much as he can- until she is free to be his. He endures so much, but is so strong and determined in his love. Their love was very pure and sweet!
Also, Thea, Medusa's pet owl, was awesome. I want an owl so badly now!

I love reading books with mythology in them, and this was a wonderful example. It's compelling and utterly beautiful, I was hooked and reading until the sun was coming up. I can't wait to read book 2- For The Love of Hades (especially because Persephone's story is one of my favourites!).

I received a review copy, for my honest opinion.

About the Author

Sasha is part gypsy. Born June 9, 1974, stories have always played an important role in her life. Her passions have always been storytelling, Hollywood, history, and travel. It’s no surprise that her books include a little of each. Her first play, ‘Greek Gods and Goddesses’ was written for her Girl Scout troupe. She’s been writing ever since. She loves getting lost in the worlds and characters she creates; even if she frequently forgets to run the dishwasher or wash socks when she’s doing so. Luckily, her four brilliant children and hero-inspiring hubby are super understanding and supportive.
